Notice: Nigeria "Scam" Letters
A common scam, once practiced through postal mail, and now appearing via e-mail, is to claim that a large sum of money is being held for some reason in Nigeria (scam letters using alternate countries, such as Sierra Leone, have also been seen), and the assistance of a trustworthy individual is required to help retrieve it; the letter promises a significant percentage of the multi-million dollar sum. The State Department has information on how to avoid such scams, and to verify the credentials of anyone offering such a proposal. Here is such an e-mail, received by embassy.org staff.
